Food & Drinks Nearby

Lunch is not covered by the workshop. Below you will find a selection of options within easy walking distance of the venue, from quick bites to proper sit-down meals. Click any card to open it in Google Maps.

Quick Lunch

Perfect for a fast break between sessions.

Eating outside tip. If you buy takeaway food from any of the spots nearby, you are welcome to eat at the tables in the DIAG's inner courtyard. Alternatively, in a few minutes by foot you can reach Parco di Colle Oppio ↗, where benches overlooking the Colosseum make for a memorable lunch break.

Pizza al Taglio

Pizza al taglio ("pizza by the cut") is Rome's quintessential street food: large rectangular trays of pizza baked in the oven, displayed behind the counter, and sold by weight. You point at the slice you want, the server cuts it, weighs it, and wraps it in paper — ready to eat on the go or take back to the courtyard. Toppings range from the classic rossa (tomato) and bianca (olive oil & rosemary) to seasonal vegetables, cured meats, and more creative combinations. Prices are typically €3–6 for a generous portion.

Sit-Down Restaurants

For a proper dinner or a longer lunch. Reservations recommended.

Evening Drinks: Where to Find the Organisers 🍺

After the sessions, the organisers are likely to be found at one of the following spots. Rome has a thriving scene of craft beer and natural wine bars — here are some favourites within easy reach of the venue.

A Good Espresso ☕

Rome takes its coffee seriously. An espresso is drunk standing at the bar, costs around €1.20–1.50, and should be finished in two or three sips. Here are two spots near the DIAG where you can find an excellent cup:

Accommodation

There is no official conference hotel. The venue is easily reachable on foot from the surrounding neighbourhoods: Esquilino (around Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II and Via Merulana), San Giovanni, Re di Roma, and San Lorenzo are all within comfortable walking distance of the department. While You're in Rome

The DIAG sits in one of Rome's most historically rich neighbourhoods. Within short walking distance you will find the Colosseum and Roman Forum (~15 min on foot), the Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore (~10 min), and the Baths of Caracalla (~20 min). A few metro stops take you toward the Pantheon, Piazza Navona, and the Trevi Fountain.

A Roman Treat: the Maritozzo 🍞

The maritozzo is Rome's most beloved pastry: a soft brioche bun split open and generously filled with fresh whipped cream. It is typically enjoyed for breakfast or as an afternoon snack, and it is absolutely not to be missed.
