Lodging

We have arranged two accommodation options: dorm rooms and a hotel block. Note that we are not working with any third-party travel agents or reservation teams. All bookings are arranged directly by you with the vendors. Please be suspicious of any emails asking for your personal information to confirm bookings on your behalf.

Dorm Rooms

For both students and nonstudents, dorm rooms are available for reservation at $63 per night. The dorm is Centennial Hall, located at 614 Delaware Street Southeast, Minneapolis, MN, 55455. The rooms are private, with shared bathrooms. For more information about the dorm options, visit the Discover Your Stay page.

The dorm booking deadline has now passed. For other lodging options, see below.

Hotel Block

We have negotiated a block rate at the Hampton Inn & Suites Minneapolis University Area, located at 2812 University Ave SE, Minneapolis, MN 55414. The cost is $136+tax for a king room and $146+tax for a two-queen room, and this includes hot breakfast. You may book using the link https://group.hamptoninn.com/cy8w2p, or by phone (612-259-8797) if you request to be under the "mip 2025" block. The block rate expired May 18, 2025. Please email us with any questions about lodging (such as if the block runs out of rooms of either type, as there may be an option to add more)

The hotel offers a free shuttle service that covers about a mile radius and runs every half hour starting at 7:30am. Guests can sign up at the front desk.

Transportation

Below are some details about the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP) and local transportation options, such as the METRO Light Rail. These are taken from the "Transportation to Campus" suggestions by the University of Minnesota's International Student and Scholar Services.

MSP is located 13 miles (21 km) from campus. There are a variety of transportation options from MSP.

  • Light Rail Transit:  A quick, easy way to get from the airport to campus. Take the Blue Line to U.S. Bank Stadium station in downtown Minneapolis. Transfer to the Green Line toward St. Paul. Get off at East Bank station. The entire trip takes about 35 minutes.
    • Note that the Blue Line leaves the airport every 10 minutes during peak hours and every 10–15 minutes at other times of day. Tickets are sold at ticket machines at the rail station.
  • Buses: City bus service is provided by Metro Transit. For bus fare and route information, call the 24-hour automated system at 612-341-4287, or find information on the Metro Transit website.
  • Shuttles: It costs approximately $20 per person to take a shared shuttle from the airport. If you have more than 3 pieces of luggage you will be charged an extra fee. Bus, van, and limousine service can also be scheduled.
  • Taxis: Taxi service is available for approximately $40-$50. A $6.25 fare will be displayed on the Taxicab meter when you start your trip. This fee includes a $2.50 "flag drop" fee and a $3.75 airport access fee. Use taxis and shuttle services that have the name of the company clearly marked.
  • App-based Ride Services: Uber, Lyft, or other app-based ride pick-up services are available.
    • If you arrive at Terminal 1: Pick-up is available at Level 1 of the Green/Gold parking ramps.
    • If you arrive at Terminal 2: Pick-up is available from the Ground Transport Center, which is on the ground level of the Purple parking ramp.
    • Lyft and Uber cost around $20 on average from MSP to campus, but fares increase when there is high demand. Get an estimate for your trip from Uber or Lyft .
